They illustrate wanting to know the imperfect parts of someone before they get ready to put on a presentable appearance for the outside world to see. The narrator wants to know all the things that everyone else can’t see, allowing him to form a deeper bond with her. I love how these lyrics depict that in an indirect way, giving us a show, don’t tell type of narration.
