The Gender Controversy

The Wilds is an Amazon Prime show proving our theories on crazy mad scientists. It centers around nine girls from different backgrounds pulled together by Gretchen Klein for her experiment on if teenage girls or teenage boys survive better. I started the show two years ago because of The Try Guys posting a video and gave a little summary about it. It starts off with the girls on a plane that crashes onto an island (only it was orchestrated, but that’s not until later) and from then on try to survive. On day one, a girl dies because of the trauma she faced from the plane which is later learned was an accident. To stop another death, the girls start putting together their prior knowledge so everyone can survive. They start hunting and gathering, moving locations, and using games to keep their minds off of the nightmare they’re facing. Every episode is dedicated to a character and how they got into the position that they’re in. Behind the scenes, it is learned that Gretchen Klein is behind all of this. She has cameras set up all over the island and had two people to give her inside knowledge, however, the girl that died the first night was one of them. Seeing this as a PR nightmare, she starts gathering information on all the girls to throw them under the bus in case she has to deal with them in court. The season ends with one of the girls knowing who the spy is, but ends up looking like The Boy Who Cried Wolf

In season two, they introduce boys to the season. With the exact same fake airplane set up, it is clear the distinction between how the girls and the boys set up. While the girls used each other for help, the boys set up a hierarchy. I feel that this season would have had higher ratings had they made more episodes because it felt rushed in comparison to season 2. Knowing their audience and giving them what they want would have most likely have gave them a third season.
