First Trailer for Scott Pilgrim Anime Dropped, and Fans are Ecstatic
NETFLIX has finally released a trailer for the Scott Pilgrim anime, and fans are hyped. Not much was known about the upcoming show from its original announcement in 2022, but we now have an official title for the series: ‘Scott Pilgrim Takes Off’. The trailer opens with Alison Pill reprising her role as drummer Kim Pine, screaming the familiar intro to characters band: “we are Sex Bob-omb!”.
The video-game inspired style of the original Bryan Lee O’Malley graphic novels and cult-classic movie have lended themselves well to this medium, and it shows through the bouncy, dynamic animation and colorful style. The series is written and produced by BenDavid Grabinski, alongside the original comic creator Bryan O’Malley. The original film cast is also to reprise their roles, including Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim, Brie Larson as Envy Adams and Kieran Culkin as Wallace Wells. The original cast reprising their roles along with the original creator of the graphic novels working as both a writer and executive producer are incredibly good signs to many that this will be a stellar adaptation.
As someone who loved both the comics and the movie, I am incredibly excited. I personally hope this series also comes alongside new music from the in-show band Sex Bob-omb, as their songs have made it onto several of my favorite playlists throughout the years, along with Brie Larson’s iconic cover of Metric’s “Black Sheep” as Envy. Beyond the fun animation, I’m most excited at the prospects of a new fun soundtrack for the show.
